Have you ever heard of the word Serendipity? It means the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
Have you ever heard of a God Wink? It means an event or personal experience, often identified as coincidence, so astonishing that it is seen as a sign of divine intervention, especially when perceived as the answer to a prayer.
These are three words are what I think of now when I think of Blend Café.
Hi, my name is Erica Covey and my husband is James Covey. We have two children, Nickolis and KayAnn. I am originally from New Martinsville, WV and my husband, James, is from Sardis, OH. We have been married for almost 17 years and he also hits 17 years active duty in the Marine Corps this year. Our children are currently in elementary school and love sports.
Since I was a little girl, I have wanted to be a small business owner. I handmade items to sell and I would use my own money to buy candy and resell them to the neighborhood kids. I was destined to be an entrepreneur. Then, when I was a teenager, a little coffee shop opened in my hometown. Since the first time I went in, I said I wanted to own my own. This year Barista’s Café, in New Martinsville WV, celebrated 20 years of business and still to this day they know my order!
Since Blend has opened, I have absolutely loved it! In the last year, I have gotten to know the original owner’s family. Over that year, I have seen the time, love, and attention poured into Blend Café! It truly was inspiring.
Remember me asking you about the word Serendipity and a God Wink? It all started on a Friday morning when I sent a text message to the owner. It was accidentally misread and instead of her thinking I was inquiring about a private event, she thought I was inquiring to buy the business. Well, that’s all she wrote.HaHa Yes and No. This is probably one of the quickest turnaround times for a sale of a business. Through a ton of time chatting, prayers, and in the matter of two weeks, I am now the proud owner of Blend Café.
My childhood dreams are coming true. With new ownership comes the predictable changes. Throughout the process we will make some changes, but only ones we feel are for the best. One thing we can promise that will never change, is the love the customers feel and the heart and hard work that continues to go into always making it the best that it can be.
Come see us! We look forward to meeting you!
